Can Do Duck: The Musical!

I’m sure if you follow me and my family on Instagram or watch our daily lives on YouTube you know we had spoken about or seen us having gone to see the family-friendly “Can Do Duck The Musical.”

Can Do Duck: The Musical is a positive motivational musical for children and families about believing in yourself and saying “I can”. The musical follows the story of two families, a human family and a duck family, as they learn to try new things, work as a team and learn to love and accept each other even with their individual differences. The musical is based on the successful children’s book series The Can Do Duck that has positively influenced and helped people overcome challenges all over the world.

What I found so heart-warming was that the director, Arielle Sosland, was an NYU freshman (now a senior at NYU) who created the musical from her father (a child psychiatrist) who wrote the “Can Do Duck” book years ago and had both her and her sister draw pictures to the book.

I was so enthralled into the story I was pretty shocked. These were one of those things you went to because you knew your child would love it, but you’d probably wouldn’t find too exciting. Well, they slapped me right in the face because I loved it! The directors ability to create an emotionally connected story for both children and adults to enjoy is something not many can do.

Arielle took such a simply written story that would teach a child they can into a visual, emotionally charged story that everyone can feel. I felt for Can Do when he got frustrated; I felt frustrated too. When Can Do was lost, lonely and afraid; I felt lost, lonely and afraid too. And the greatest part about that, was seeing the children connect and sympathize for him in their expressions! My daughter got so sad she’d fake cry like Can Do and hug me when the mother duck hugged Can Do. The ability to take her fathers story for children and make it into a story that adults can feel is a great accomplishment.

Love this post! Just to let you know Arielle Sosland is a senior at NYU, not a freshman 🙂
