*Best Inclusive Family Resort: Woodloch was sponsored. All opinions are my own. thatsBetsyV blogs*
Before I met my boyfriend I don’t think I ever made my way to Pennsylvania. What could possibly be there? Of course, being together for 7 years I’ve learned, well, there’s plenty to do up there. One place that came up numerous times during our relationship is how much he enjoyed working at Woodloch as a kid. All I knew is that it was a fun family resort. Also, heard all his stories about what he did, who he worked with and so on. I never looked it up or bothered to find out more.
What is Woodloch Resort?
That was until he mentioned it again, and I hit the Google. Woodloch, which is located in the Pocono’s, Pennsylvania– has been around for 62 years and only owned by one family. The Kiesendahl family has sported ownership and operation from one generation to the next.
Woodloch’s statement; a tradition of excellence was such an understatement. Through my entire stay my experience felt more like home with my family opposed to being at a resort with staff workers. The waitstaff took special attention towards details with my family and their needs each meal. The social staff were incredible with my children, Gunner even had a crush on one, Faith, who remembered the kids names from one day to the next. Maintenance workers and groundskeepers all smiled and greeted you in passing. And the folks at the front desk ALWAYS smiled and waved every morning when you walk into the main lodge for breakfast. It’s a personal connection I saw not just with my family, but with other guests. It’s this level of hospitality that earns you awards- and they have done just that with over 50 awards spanning across all their destinations. Including top nominations on Trip Advisor for “Best Hotel For Families” and the Spa boasts yearly nods in the Conde? Nast Traveler. You truly do submerse yourself in the quaint little paradise lakeside. You can clearly see why so many families choose to come back each and every year in tradition.
Things to do at Woodloch
Woodloch strives on family, their family, your own family, other families and working together. During our stay we participated in “Cake Wars,” with another family in which we competed against other families to create a one-of-a-kind cake based off the topic American Sports (watch here). The following day we decided to partake in one of their 30+ scheduled daily activities and played ‘Family Feud,’ again with another family– and it went extremely well.
No matter the season, Woodloch always has something for you to do. The summer is full of warm weather running around the endless acreage (or hop on those complimentary shuttle buses). There’s countless activities all which you can win medals, lay out by the lake on the beach, go boating, race around the go kart tracks, climb to new heights on their climbing wall or soar down their zipline. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg in summer. Winter doesn’t stop either- snowmobiling, snow tubing, ice skating, cross country skiing, winter olympics and the list goes on. Hop on their hayrides in the fall or hunt for eggs on the front lawn during Easter. Every day there’s a new schedule. If you’re not head first in the activities, you’re probably stage-side watching their incredible broadway style performances in an amazing nightclub or dancing the night away in their North Lodge. Don’t worry mom and dad, they have highly trusted and thoroughly trained babysitters on call if you need a little alone time while the kids rest up. It’s all there. Christmas is the only time they shut their doors.
Have an extra day to explore outside of their grounds, you can tour the Poconos and the surrounding area. Go view the legendary waters with the Delaware and Lackawaxen River or Lake Wallenpaupack. There’s amazing and rare wildlife including the American Bald Eagle, and exciting outdoor activities like horseback riding, skiing, fishing, hiking and boating all within a short scenic drive…just stop by the front desk and ask for recommendations or car service.
Beyond a family resort, it’s a great place for all special occasions including weddings; corporate retreats; and meetings/conferences. Explore what they offer. It really is endless.
