*Summer Getaway Near NYC was sponsored by Hotel Indigo East End*
We are a family that loves to travel, whether it’s a plane ride away or a car ride away. Who doesn’t love a getaway? A few weeks ago we made a trip to Riverhead which is located at the end of Long Island for a weekend getaway. Thanks to my dear friend Susan from She’s on the Go we stayed at Hotel Indigo, which you already know I’m a huge fan of Hotel Indigo if you remember our California vacation.
Summer getaway starts here at Indigo Hotel
The convenience of where Hotel Indigo, was located was the best! Besides their comfortable beds and delicious breakfast, I couldn’t get over how convenient the location was. You may have heard about Tanger Outlet Mall? It’s a big deal for many New Yorkers, New Jerse–ians(?) and Pennsylvanians, it’s where all the HUGE sales happen and just about every store you love is steps away from another. Then you can head back to Hotel swim in the outdoor pool or hang out around the camp fire, or maybe do like my boyfriend and get your fitness on at their gym.
Wine Tasting at Osprey’s Dominion
Also, lets not forget that in the area there are tons of wineries! We made our way to Osprey’s Dominion, which had an array of white and red wine everywhere. It was a great way to spend your day as they also had wine tours, gorgeous outdoor space to explore, hang out, play football or even have a picnic. Now maybe you’re not much of a wine drinker, but love cider, we hit up a ciderhouse too!
The Riverhead Cidehouse
I’m a sucker for great photo opps and this place was so gorgeous on the inside–The Riverhead Ciderhouse. I had no idea there were that many ciders available from apple cider to rose cider to sweet cider to dry-hopped cider, the list just goes on. We got to try a flight of them and it was delicious. I never thought I’d be anything besides an apple cider kind of gal. What was nice is that the had a great menu to munch on while drinking.
Harbes Family Farm
Those places were kid-friendly which worked out well for us, but you know as well as I do kids can only stay seated for so long. We made our way to Harbes Family Farm, which by far was my favorite! So many activities then what we got to experience since the weather was still on the border of being cold, but besides animals and hayrides they have hours of fun. Let me mention, singing hayrides, pig races, maze, bouncy house, individual tractor rides, sports games and more. This place I can’t wait to visit again when the weather in NY finally decides to be spring everyday not just twice a week.
Long Island Aquarium
Then of course if you’re going to be out in Rivehead a trip to the Long Island Aquarium is a must. We love museums and we love aquariums, who doesn’t love seeing what’s under or above the sea? They have amazing shark tank, which you can actually shark dive in– something I need to do next time! There’s a great opportunity to meet some penguins and take a selfie with one. Or maybe you like to just see some fishes and a seal show, theres’s that too!
It was a great weekend and if you’re more of a visual person, you know I have yo covered with the great Youtube videos!
